The youngest and only son of Mei Rong (mother) and Long Wei (father), Jian Yu's parents always had high expectations for him. He was expected to be better than any of his siblings, cousins, etc.. Unfortunately, Jian's interest in tea making wasn't as great as his family's. On his first try, he messed up his batch of green tea and continued to mess up everything he attempted to make. When he was 11, his father had grown bitter towards his only son, slapped him, and called him a disgrace.

Only wanting his parents to be proud of him, he would secretly practise his tea making at night and he would sneak out of the house to have others taste it. Slowly, his interest in tea making increased along with the improvement of his skill. However, pressured by the presence of his father, he would get overly conscious of his actions and manage to mess up somehow.

On the day of his Tea Ceremony, his parents reluctantly brought him to the stadium, his mother begging him not to make a fool of himself and embarrass the family. His confidence brought down and his ego struck, Jian had second thoughts and considered not going to the tea ceremony, and running away. His sisters, however, made sure he knew that they believe in him. Both of them encouraging him with kind words.

While the smoke still enveloped him and his cup of tea, Jian had felt a strong feeling of fear. A bright light had emitted from the tea cup and Ming Zhu had transformed. Jian was amazed at how beautiful his essence was and was very much proud that she was here because the gods were pleased with him. He had smiled at her and caressed her face saying "I think I'll name you Ming Zhu! It suits you!" She had returned the smile and he had felt that this was the start of a wonderful relationship.

After he had finished preparing and offering his tea to the gods, a light and gentle smoke enveloped not only the cup, but the boy as well. His parents had thought of the worst, thinking that their son had displeased the gods and was to be punished. The smoke filled most of the room and did not subside until after a few minutes. When the smoke had finally cleared, Jian was found sitting in the middle, apparently unharmed, the tea cup empty, and a tea bag in its place.

5 years after his tea ceremony, Jian and his father had a huge fight for his father was pressuring him to make a difference now that he had an essence. Jian, however had felt that his father was asking for too much. He, along with Ming Zhu left the Fa household and have been living alone together ever since.

With this newfound independence, Jian and Ming Zhu develop a better relationship that could be compared to a newlywed couple or a really close brother and sister. That being said, he also developed slight /romantic/ feelings for his essence but prefers to keep these to himself.

FLIRT|| He's very carefree, but quite serious when needed. He's over protective of the ones he loves. He's talkative and quite emotional but tends to keep his feelings inside. He can get over confident and a tad bit big headed. He has a big ego. He's usually very calm but has a very short temper which he has difficulty controlling.
